Shelly Taft, P.D., Serving Central and Eastern Massachusetts Northeastern Connecticut, and Northern Rhode Island.
My Philosophy:
I believe that every woman has a maternal goddess inside of her that instinctively knows how she can best give birth. I believe that birth is a natural and powerful experience that is best accomplished when allowed to take its natural course. However, I acknowledge and respect that sometimes things do not go as planned and intervention is needed.
During those times, all that may be needed is a gentle touch, loving guidance, and supportive encouragement. My job is not to speak for the pregnant woman, but to act as a resource and give her the information she needs to make informed choices about her care.
I am honored to work closely with you and your partner to learn what your values and expectations are and to support them accordingly.
My goal is to help women in the community to view their birth as a powerful and fulfilling experience that they can look back on with pride and awe.
About Me:
My passion for childbirth and infant care began with the pregnancy and birth of my oldest daughter in September 2004. Going into the hospital while in labor, I found myself quite ignorant about hospital policies and procedures concerning birth and was unprepared to voice my wishes and desires. Since my daughter's birth I have had two more children, both born at home.
I have received extensive Doula training under the guidance of an experienced midwife. I am also a La Leche League Leader, a NMC Counselor, a student herbalist, and an avid reader and knitter. Doula work has been my passion, and I find immense joy in helping couples as they transition into the wonderful world of parenthood.
